Herschel
Description: An unusually large and unusually colorful toad that is usually stuffed in a jar. Oz carries him around and uses the goop produced by his skin for potions. He is, in some ways, Oz's mistreated familiar.
Magic: None. He is a toad.
Strengths:
Natural
- Hopping. He can get from place-to-place (if he's not in a jar) by hopping around.
- Croaking. He can communicate with other toads and froggies by croaking.
- Camouflage. He's kinda hard to see when surrounded by foliage.
- Hallucinogenic slime. Herschel excretes a slimy substance that will cause most creatures to trip fucking balls if they lick it or get too much of it on their face.
- Medicinal slime. The same slime that causes hallucinations also has medicinal properties. It is mostly helpful (in small doses) for those who suffer from mental disorders, though excessive use will cause someone to go gradually insane. It is an effective painkiller and increases the rate of healing when applied on wounds.
Learned
- He's learned to sit in his jar and keep his opinions to himself, so Oz doesn't shake the jar.
- Incredible patience. Herschel has been with Oz for a very long time, which means he can out-wait just about anything.
Supernatural
- Smart-toad. Thanks to Oz's tampering, Herschel is fully sentient and his laid-back, toady nature makes him rather wise. Oz usually doesn't listen to him.
- Immortal. Again, thanks to Oz's tampering, Herschel cannot be killed; he really doesn't appreciate this perk, given his circumstances. If squashed, eaten, or firecrackered, he'll simply reincarnate in his jar (much to his dismay).
Weaknesses:
- Scouter reads that Herschel's power-level is NOT over 9000.
- No offensive abilities or skills.
- No defensive skills or abilities other than hallucinogenic slime.
- He cannot open jars from the inside.
- Boots. If Herschel comes in contact with footwear, it's likely that he has been kicked or stomped, and therefore does not win.
- Caravans.
- Merchant wagons.
- Horses.
- Cats
- Dogs
- Firecrackers
- Curious children.
- Being thrown really high in the air by someone that can't catch.
- Being thrown against a wall.
- Being used as a baseball.
- Being used as a tennis ball.
- Low humidity
- He can read, but cannot write (tragic)
- He can't talk, but can only communicate telepathically with Oz.
- Oz shakes the jar when Herschel complains about anything.
- Immortal
