Ariel the Righteous. Empty
PostSubject: Ariel the Righteous.   Ariel the Righteous. EmptySat Jan 08, 2011 8:51 am

General:

Alt Name:

Ariel The Righteous (Ariel is a unisex name, damn you mermaids!)

A brief description of your character:

A holy man on a quest of self-exile to purge himself and the world of sin, so all may bask in the glory that is God.

Why/How is your character in Skuldhellir:

Yet another stop in a god-forsaken Hellhole :)

Magic (OPTIONAL):

His magic doesn't really work by the usual system. It's based on a manapool. Being a good catholic, praying and the likes refill it whilst breaking catholic laws and using magic depletes it. I'll try it give it an equivalent in the prep system.
I'd say he can follow the normal system with a cost of 2 point of his mana (per prep), or burst out more quickly at a cost of 10 points per prep, with a max of 3 preps per post. Not that when he casts and is interrupted, he loses all gathered mana anyway, effectively wasting hard-earned energy.
---Max Preps (1-10):
10
---Schools:
He doesn't really have school rather than types of uses he has for the energy. For example, he can't use ANY magic outside of his own, unlike normal mages who can attempt at any spell.
[Healing]: The class name says it all. Includes: Mending of wounds, purifying of poison, exorcism (not only persons, but just as much any other part of nature.)
[Protection]: Shields, wards.
[Blessing]: Could call it 'buffs'. Increasing stats temporarily and such.
[Justice]: The fires of Justice burn those who sin; It can take many forms from orbs to beams to resemble weapons, etc. Basically Heavenly fire that cleanses or kills, whatever needs to be done. More effective the more then target has sinned in his/her life. Lawfully good characters, for example, will remain relatively unharmed.

Strengths:
---Natural:

Your body is a temple: Regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle have paid off greatly:
** Strength equivalent to a bodybuilder.
** Can take a serious amount of punishment
** Doesn't tire easily

---Learned:

** Reading, writing, etc.
** A master at dual-wielding his favorite weapon: a shield.
** Can stand his own with a sword as well, but he's hardly a skilled swordsman.
** Riding.
** Knowledge of how to kill the supernatural demon spawn on this world (vampire, werewolves, etc.)

edit:
**Trained hard in the ways of the catholic faith, almost brainwashed into it. His mind isn't easy to corrupt, manipulate, etc. Then again, ever man can be tempted eventually.

---Supernatural:
** Blessed equipment. His shields and armor will burn demons and those aligned with them, making it hard for them to come near this idol of holiness.

Weaknesses:
** Must conform to the ten commandments without hesitation. Breaking them will drain him of his power until he has made up in hours of prayer, helping others, etc.
** Full plate armor partially cancels out some of his natural strength. While he's more fit than your average warrior and used to wearing it, this thing weighs truckloads.
** As slow as any knight in full plate. Running is almost impossible (only short sprints that tire him out greatly)
** Full plate also hinders movement, making him more vulnerable to more dexterous opponents.
** Ascetic lifestyle. Except for his equipment, he may not possess or chase any fortune/luxury (or fame for that matter).
** Unlike normal spellcasters, if he runs out of mana, it's over. No more pew pew lasers.

Edit:
** Most of his blessings/protective powers hardly affect people of a different faith. This either forces him to turn people to catholicism, or abandon helping him.
** recharging mana: Every person he helps (with something significant like a quest or saving their lives, not something stupid as picking up something they dropped :p) earns him 2 mana. Four if this person is a catholic. If he helps a group, he receives the mana for each person. Some exceptions are:
Guilds/cults give 30 (double if mainly catholic)
Villages/towns give 40 (double if mainly catholic). For example, defending it from raiders.
Large cities give 80 (again, double if the city is mainly catholic)
** If he ever were to aid a demon or otherwise god-defying cause, he'd immediately lose half to all of his mana. (unless he breaks a commandment in the process, in which he loses his powers altogether.)
** Defiled grounds weaken him mentally and physically and he'll have to burn through mana to keep at full strength. (dosage depending on the nature of the defilement)
** Corruption: To issue a spell, his thoughts and purpose must be pure. Else his spell will twist and corrupt into a weakened state or even the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do.

I was totally aware that Ariel is a unisex name-- it happens to be the name of a... a male spirit, I believe he was, from The Tempest.

At any rate, a sheet for you:

Strengths:
1. Magic; 10 + 4 (1pt for each category he can do) = 14

2. Great strength; 2
3. Body can take on serious punishment; 3
4. Doesn't tire easily; 2

5. Reading & writing; 1
6. Master at dual-wielding shields (whoa); 2
7. Decent with a sword; 1
8. Riding; 1
9. Knowledgable in killing off demon spawn; 2

10. Blessed equipment; 2

Weaknesses:
1. Yo, God says to stay true to the path of RIGHTEOUSNESS; 2
2. Truckloads of armor; 3
3. Realistic armor cons; 3
4. Hindered movement in that armor; 3
5. Ascetic lifestyle; 2
6. Mana hits zero, you are no longer a holy hero; 3

TOTALS
Strengths = 30
Weaknesses = 16

Yikes. I think primarily it's his HUGE magic power that's tipping the scales so hard-- and I couldn't really put it under the school of "holy magic" because you said he doesn't really have a school; but if I did I, it would've brought it to 11 (making the totals 27 vs 16-- still unbalanced). Because without the magic, he'd be 16 vs 16. Balanced. I do wonder why a holy warrior would NEED to get all the way up to 10 (uberly powerful holy rituals?), however...

If you aren't willing to tone down his max preps some, at least give him some more weaknesses; maybe something that has to do with his being blessed by God? For example, what happens if he gets tangled in a nasty fight with a powerful demon spawn or black magic user? Do we have any tainting here? If demonspawn and their associates can be hurt by holy powers, surely the reverse can happen too...

Huge magic power, lawl. (also, you could say it's one school. None of those abilities work with anything else than holy energy) The man is nothing compared to mages. Sure, he can blast out some high-yield spell rather fast, but that's it. My fault for not further explaining it, but he doesn't regain mana just like that.
It could take days of dedicated prayer and community work for him tor regain even a tiny bit of his mana. He's not supposed to be a warrior/mage, he's supposed to be a warrior who has been granted just a tiny bit of power to help him in his divine quest, at the cost of the needed worship.

You could say 'but hey, he can throw out a 10 prep spell in 4 posts'. Yeah, sure, if he has the mana for it. And even then, his power is bound by the commandments. He can't do much with all that power, except mass exorcism or purifying an entire water bassin. (he's not allowed to harm or kill anyone, unless out of self-defense and only when his life is threatened or when he's going to get seriously wounded. He can't punch you back if you punched him, not without losing his powers. The best he can do is block your attack.)

That's another thing, strictly following all commandments only earns a 2? That's 10 major rules he can't break without losing all his fancy powers. It could take weeks, months before his God would forgive him. Not to mention he'd be pretty worthless, spending all the time he has on seeking forgiveness rather than doing anything else. He's a strictly holy man and his faith is his life, without it he'd be lost.

Anyway, I'll get to work on some more weaknesses then.

I'm sorry, Ulrin-- I guess the huge number I got when I did the magic kind of made me go "<:/" big time while I was working on the sheet.

But yeah, looking over your post, your edits, and Ed's numbers, I think I agree with 'em. Looks fine to me now.

It's ok Lauren, I should've specified his magic more. I sort of forgot I only ever really explained Ed :3

Another perfect balance? That's my second char with it. I'm getting the hang of this ;D

Catching up on my app duties: I'm fine with the numbers Ed posted.

Shall we consider this accepted and have it moved?
