PostSubject: Emerald Archdancer   Fri Jul 23, 2010 3:24 pm

General:
E-mail (OPTIONAL): pirate.life.for.me@hotmail.com

Alt Name: Emerald Archdancer

A brief description of your character: A blonde-haired young woman with a moderate Scottish-Irish accent. She seems quite at home out in the wilderness, typically found sleeping in the fields or even in the forest. There's a wild, almost feral feel to her at times, which probably isn't helped by being a natural shape-shifter. She is never seen without her triquetra pendant, which has seemingly been enchanted to change size along with her when she shifts.

Why/How is your character in Skuldhellir: It sounded like an interesting place, so she hopped on the boat to go check it out. Why not?

Magic (OPTIONAL):
---Max Preps (1-10):
5
---Schools:
While capable of wielding magic, Em has no formal knowledge or training, and would probably end up blowing herself up if she even attempted a cantrip. She may seek edumacations of the magical kind in the future.

Strengths:
---Natural:
Intelligent: Not so much a book-smart type woman but she is clever and capable of finding solutions to most problems that rear their ugly heads in daily life.
Empathetic: This isn't actually being able to read other's emotions so much as it is being inherently good at reading body language in most other creatures. She doesn't realize how she's doing it, just that if someone is upset (even if they are attempting to hide it), she can pick it out without much trouble and can easily sympathize with them. Likewise for animals.
Calm: She is generally a calm person, being rather understanding and hard to anger. She takes things as they come and rolls with the punches.

---Learned:
First aid: This is only a basic understanding of simple things like cleaning and bandaging wounds. She also knows a few herbal remedies for things such as insomnia and fatigue.
Hunting: Mostly instinctual and only accomplished when in a non-human form (see Shape-shifting below), Em is quite skilled in the art of killing for food, be it deer, fish, rabbits, etc...
Fighting: Again, this is something she is only skilled at when not human. When it comes to down and dirty brawling with teeth, claws, and whatever else have you, she can certainly take care of herself.

---Supernatural:
Shape-shifting: (Anywhere from 3 to 8 turns, depending on size; those closest to human-size take the shortest while extremely large or extremely small animals take the longest) Certainly her most prominent strength. Em is capable of turning into almost any vertebrate animal she has seen, excluding magical ones (so no dragons, unicorns, balrogs, etc...) This is mostly used for hunting and fighting, but she has a fondness for lounging around in feline forms, so don't be surprised if there's a leopard lounging about on a rock in the middle of the lake. This ability also allows her a sort of natural comradery with most animals, but she can not "talk" to them (i.e. she can't get information as one would from another person), nor can she convince them to do anything they would not do naturally (example: she can't convince a bear to follow her around town like some giant fuzzy bodyguard, as awesomesauce as that might be).

Weaknesses:
Shape-shifting limitations:

  • If she has not seen an animal, she can not transform into it. The only exceptions to this are if the target creature is similar enough to one she already knows. Example: She can turn into a tiger. With enough concentration, and a bit of practice, she can turn into a lion.
  • Injuries stay put. If she is injured, regardless of what form she is in, that wound will remain when she shifts.
  • Forms that are of a large size-difference require more time to transform into, and use up more energy. Turning into a mouse will be much more taxing on her than turning into a wolf and she will not be able to remain a mouse for nearly as long as she would be able to remain a wolf, and vice-versa. She could hold the form of an elephant about as well as she could a mouse.
  • If knocked unconscious, she reverts to her human form. This could be dangerous if it happens in a large fight. An unconscious human is much less durable than, say, an unconscious rhino. This does not apply to sleeping.
  • Sickness and injury restrict her shifting abilities. Both will keep her from remaining in an alternate form for very long, and major, life-threatening injuries could force her to revert to human form if obtained while an animal.
  • Particularly vulnerable when shifting. If Em were to be attacked while she was in the middle of shifting, the damage sustained would be much greater than if she were to be completely human or completely animal.
  • Potential to be "trapped" in animal form. While she has no set time limit on how long she can hold a form, so long as it does not exhaust her and force her to revert, if she remains in it for an extended period of time (greater than a week), it becomes progressively harder for her to return to her natural human shape, potentially resulting her being permanently "trapped" as that animal if enough time passes... or worse, being stuck in-between forms. This does not apply to not using her shifting ability (i.e. staying a human for a few months without changing).

Feral tendencies: Mostly due to her shifting abilities, Em possesses some wild habits, such as eating her meat raw (even when human). While it isn't really a hazard, it's not exactly becoming and could certainly creep some people out.
Clumsy: While human, she isn't all that graceful, tending to trip over her own two feet at times.
Weak: She isn't all that strong as a human, either.
Illiterate: She does not know how to read or write.
Weak against magic in general: Magic does about twice as much harm to her as regular physical attacks. She learned this one pretty quickly, and will go out of her way to avoid getting into a confrontation with any magic users.
Catnip: Yes, that's right, catnip. Give her some and she'll be your bestest friend in the whole wide world until it wears off.
Wine: Her drink of choice. If she could sit and drink wine all night long, she would... and she'd drink the whole next day, too! Fortunately, she doesn't usually have enough copper for extensive drinking like that, but when she does, watch out!
Smoking: Mmmm, tobacco. 'nuff said.

Hurrah! Thank you! Smile I was worried I hadn't managed to balance her out enough.
