PostSubject: Qualme   Qualme EmptySun Jul 18, 2010 8:44 pm

General:
E-mail (OPTIONAL): pirate.life.for.me@hotmail.com

Alt Name: Qualme

A brief description of your character: Former warrior turned vagabond, Qual's obviously degenerated in the mental department over the years though exactly why remains unseen, but judging by an extreme aversion to magic, it likely did not occur naturally. She is usually relatively calm and even friendly, but is prone to becoming violent when upset for whatever reason, which could become dangerous if she is not quickly pacified or subdued... Reality does not seem to be something she readily accepts either, insisting she is in a town called Escher despite others' attempts to prove otherwise.

Why/How is your character in Skuldhellir: She claims she arrived by boat, which may or may not be true. Having been a wanderer for some time now, there's no real reason for her being in Skuldhellir other than the fact that it's there.

Magic (OPTIONAL):
Qualme's innate magical abilities are gone, leaving her unable to perform even the simplest of spells...
---Max Preps (1-10): Not applicable

---Schools: Not applicable

Strengths:
---Natural:
Strength: While nothing extraordinary, she can certainly swing a sword with enough force to do some damage and do relatively heavy lifting for a human her size.
Dexterity: She is good with her hands.
Agility: She is light on her feet and a bit faster than most.
Intelligence: Believe it or not, Qualme is innately smart. Not brilliant, but not quite average either, though she doesn't demonstrate it often.

---Learned:
Fishing: Growing up a fisherman's daughter, it's inevitable that she learned how to catch her dinner.
Cooking: A skill she picked up in her travels. She's certainly no chef, but at least her food is (somewhat) edible.
Fist fighting: She has a grasp of some loose martial arts, but is more accustomed to simple brawling thanks to too much time in the taverns.
Sword fighting: Qual became skilled with swords over the years, generally perferring something along the lines of a scimitar, but she can figure out how to use almost anything with a blade.
Survival skills: Living in the woods for a good amount of time, she's learned how to survive in the wilderness. This includes basic tracking skills, identifying plants that are safe to eat, avoiding predators, etc...
Hunting: Yet another skill she picked up in her various travels.
Archery: She is not a remarkable marksmen by any means, but good enough for both battle and hunting.
Friendly: Qual puts out a decent effort to get on good terms with people; she's seen enough fighting in her time.

---Supernatural:
None

Weaknesses:

Insanity: By far one of her biggest flaws, Qual's a few monkeys short of a petting zoo. Generally, it's harmless, but under the right circumstances, she could be a hazard to both herself and others.
Prone to violence: If something spooks or upsets her, her initial reaction is to attack first and ask questions after the offending party is dead or she's finally calmed down.
Easily upset: If someone says the wrong thing to her or she so much as gets a notion that something may be "off" she could become upset and go into one of those aforementioned violent fits.
Paranoia: Qualme isn't usually suspicious of other people, but is susceptible to blowing small things out of proportion. Example: The wind rustling some leaves could lead her into believing people are following her.
Delusional: Despite efforts to convince her otherwise, she believes she is in a town called Escher, belongs to a group she calls the A.O.G. and is mortal enemies with people called Warlords. While these references may have something to do with her past, there is also a chance they are completely fictitious. This may or may not change over time, but hopefully she will eventually accept she isn't in Kansas Escher anymore.
Unable to use magic: 'Nuff said. I don't want to give away her secrets, after all.
Magiphobic: She is absolutely terrified of magic, and will do anything and everything within her power to keep as far away from it as possible. Even a simple healing spell can send her running in the other direction screaming bloody murder. In other words: If it can't be overcome with physical force, keep it away from her!
Scars: Her arms, legs, and back all bare marks from previous injuries. There is another scar hidden beneath her hair on the right side of her head, though it doesn't look like it came from any sort of weapon. They're not pretty to look at, and are more sensitive to discomfort and pain.
Unkempt: Looking nice is nowhere in her agenda. As long as there aren't flies buzzing around her, she couldn't care less if she smells and looks like a bum.
Financially unstable: Dirt poor, broke, living from copper to copper, etc... For all intents and purposes she really is a bum! Guess it's not just looks and smell after all.

The most interesting trait about this character seems to be the fact that she's insane, which sounds interesting, to say the least. Also, having a phobia to magic could lead to some amusing situations. My only worry is that I feel like semi-violent, insane fits of rage could be very disruptive to the rp. The way you've described it makes me feel like it borders on randomly attacking people over an off feeling or someone saying the wrong thing. I feel like this person is dangerous and should have been locked up before they could have gotten here, seeing as most communities wouldn't take randomly going insane and attacking someone very well. I'm not sure how people in medieval times treated the insane, but I'm sure they didn't just let people who were mentally unstable that could potentially hurt innocents walk among them. Something about it just feels off.

I see what you mean there. Honestly, I made this application after only playing the character once. Neutral My characters usually tend to work themselves out in whatever direction they want despite what I might originally intend... in this case, after getting more of a chance to play Qual, she's turning out to be a bit more simple-minded and less easily thrown into violent fits than I figured she would be (i.e. more confusing, less troublesome). Laughing I'll probably end up redoing her application once I have a better feel for her. Thank you very much for pointing that out! Very Happy

And thanks for fixing my fail for forgetting literacy, Ed! Smile

You're welcome. I'm so glad you didn't take offense at that. I was sort of afraid you would. x3 I can relate to that actually. A lot of the time my characters develop their own tendencies while I'm rping them. Sometimes I discover things I didn't know about my own character as I write their reactions.

Anyway, good luck with your character. :3 I can't wait to see the end result.

Fantasy is the main element ignored. Which offers many exits to... insanity. Heck, so does medieval. Dangerous or not, by the way, this is a no-consent dream. Plus, her characters backstories comes from a lot of wars, so there'd really be no time for her to be locked up in the batles her characters were helping in.

Skuldhellir is also the main element here. How would this character affect this town? Not much really. They already have Torin, and if a person is going to play an insane character... like Torin... or her, they have to accept the consequences. If this character had some crazy abilities that let it avoid all consequences, I'd have issues.

Honestly though, this is a rough and tough town, a character who fights a lot and has a temper in an adventurous town of drunken bastard dwarves is BADASS, not a problem. Plus, after seeing hte characters, she's not dangerous unless you push her buttons or light a fuse. She even put FRIENDLY on the app to kind of stress that.

I have no real problems here. Perhaps if some demonic monster thing just came Waltzing in all casually amd beating people or expecting the character to be treated normal in not only... an open town but one that HATES dark magic, then I'd have a problem.

Insanity may mean your character has had some odd ventures, been put down a dfew times or driven out of town, but that doens't mean there's anything wrong with the character. And honestly, I've seen characters who's main points are STRESSED on violence and yet they're still good characters.

Basically how this character fits into the continuum in my mind? Good.
Insanity? Fine.

How they affect the continuum and would realistically coexist? Decently, but with problems. But what's the fun of RP without problems?

I am Kinzor and I approve this message, and no I'm not mad at anyone I'm half-asleep going to bed, and waking up for my birfday.

I wasn't trying to say that being dangerous itself was a reason the character seemed off to me, but that she was described as dangerous, insane, went into violent fits of rage, and yet was wandering around free. I didn't see anything about her character helping in any war in this app, so I don't really have a comment for that. Maybe it's hidden somewhere else. I was just going by what I could read here.

She did already mention though that she was roleplaying the character as less easily thrown into violent fits of rage than the app describes. I was going off what was written into this app, and the app described her as going into violent fits of rage over seemingly small things. The main reason I felt it was disruptive was because I thought someone like that wandering around free didn't make sense - it felt a bit illogical to me. When I said disruptive I meant to the continuity, not to the IC town.

Eh, well, I doubt someone would divulge the entire character history in an app P:

Buts, I do see what you mean, but more then likely, they'd get rid of'em or chase'em off. And from what I've seen, the character is too absent-minded (most of the time) to really be deemed as a threat by anyone. They'd probably deem her more as odd, but I've RPed with her.

Well, since I've been told she's rped as less insane than the app would have me believe, both by the rper of said character and someone who's rped with them, I'll withdraw my concerns.

By the way, happy birthday, Kinzor. ;3

Psst:

No matter how insane she is or isn't, the town can't very well throw her out or lock her up until she actually interacts enough for them to be able to tell, can it? (; And getting accepted is a fine place to start.

Well, we don't usually have to concern ourselves with where people came from, because this is about here, after all!

Anyway, carry on. Also, if we could get another mediator up in here (and everywhere else), that'd be delightful.

10. Finacially unstable; 2

Totals:
Strengths = 18
Weaknesses = 18-19

Turned out balanced. The insanity doesn't bother me in the least, considering the fact that she IS stressed in the app as trying to be friendly (with some buttons that could be pressed-- everyone has those, but her's are just more intense). Overall I don't mind the character in the least, and if everyone's concerned are quelled, I do believe we may call this character accepted.

Wow! I missed alot in the last 12 hours. Maybe I shouldn't sleep so much. Razz

I can completely see where Cerberus was coming from. It was a perfectly valid concern. Smile

And, no, I didn't mention Qual's participation in epic warfare in the application, because I figured once properly accepted, I'd make a post for her in the Character Info subforum and give her past and such; I feel a need to at least loosely establish those sorts of things (and then give them more detail through RP), just so folks can somewhat understand why my characters act the way they do... sorry, character development is kind of a big shiny obsession of mine. Wink Kin had a bit of inside info there, since I was beating out the character design while I was talking to him. And yes, if the town can tolerate someone as nucking futz as Torin, I'm sure they can handle Qual even on her worst days. Laughing

Lauren summed it up pretty well: Pressing Qual's buttons will get a more extreme reaction! And like I said, as I play her more, Qualme does seem to be diverging from my original intent for her, so if there are still any folks who are a bit iffy on her (or if I just decide she's evolved too much and doesn't fit the design outlined in this thread anymore), I'm more than happy to make a new application to properly reflect the way she's turned out. Cool

OH! And thank you all very much! cheers I've never gotten feedback like this on a character application before. I I love you it!

Wow, that post turned into a walloftext really fast.

...I hope my smiley abuse isn't too annoying. pirat
